چکیده

Exo-polysaccharides (EPS) are environment friendly natural polymers secreted by microorganisms in the surrounding medium. Due to the presence of unique structural composition, EPS shows diverse applications such as in food formulations, pharmaceutical, and cement based construction industry, etc. In the present investigation, the bacteria producing higher exopolysaccharide was screened among bacteria isolated from indigenous soil samples. The characterization of bacteria was done by biochemical and 16 S rDNA analysis. The investigation was done to determine the optimal variables of nutritional and environmental conditions to get maximum EPS production from the isolated bacteria. Glucose, yeast extract and MgSO4 enhanced the EPS yield at 30°C incubation temperature. Structural elucidation of the exo-polysaccharide was done using different spectroscopic techniques like H NMR, FTIR, and GC-MS. The monomeric composition of EPS contains glucose, rhamnose, glucuronic acid and mannose similar to welan gum. Exo-polysaccharide showed good emulsification property and viscosity that indicated its possible use as an additive in food industry.

Antimicrobial Activity of an Alcaligenes faecalis Strain Isolated from Oil Contaminated Soil

Abstract Background and Objective: The bacteria living in the specific ecological conditions are among the most promising antimicrobial producers. This study aimed at isolating antimicrobial producing bacteria from soils contaminated with crude oil. Material and Methods: the samples were obtained from crude oil contaminated soils around Dezful located in Khuzestan province, Iran, and antimicrob...

Production and characterization of biochemical properties of L-Asparaginase by indigenous yeast isolated from soil of Iran

Introduction: The use of L-asparaginase as a chemotherapeutic agent is an effective strategy for the treatment of leukemic lymphoblasts. Since the use of bacterial L-asparaginase causes side effects due to hypersensitivity reactions, search for new enzyme sources is one of the active research areas. In this study, the characterization of produced L-asparaginase by indigenous yeast strains was i...

Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Using Biosurfactant Produced by Alcaligenes faecalis

A bacterial strain (designated as Alcaligenes sp. MS-103) isolated from oil sample of the Aghajari oilfield in the south of Iran, was able to produce an effective extracellular lipopolysaccharide biosurfactant (1.2±0.05 g/l) on molasses as a sole carbon source. The highest surface tension reduction to level 20 mN/m was achieved by biosurfactant produced by cells grown on molasses under optimum ...

A comparison of NO and N2O production by the autotrophic nitrifier Nitrosomonas europaea and the heterotrophic nitrifier Alcaligenes faecalis.

Soil microorganisms are important sources of the nitrogen trace gases NO and N2O for the atmosphere. Present evidence suggests that autotrophic nitrifiers such as Nitrosomonas europaea are the primary producers of NO and N2O in aerobic soils, whereas denitrifiers such as Pseudomonas spp. or Alcaligenes spp. are responsible for most of the NO and N2O emissions from anaerobic soils. It has been s...
